If you’ve ever lost 20 minutes hunting down a client’s tasks, wondered which Partner has £50k of unbilled work sitting in their portfolio, or wished your practice management software just got how you actually work, this one’s for you.
We’ve been listening. Not just to feature requests, but to the daily frustrations that slow down good practices. The result? Three updates designed to fix the problems you didn’t know you could solve.
Stop Asking “Where’s All My Unbilled Work?”
Here’s a scenario we hear constantly: Partners and Practice Managers trying to get visibility over WIP. Who’s sitting on unbilled work? Which client relationships need attention? Where are the bottlenecks?
The old way meant pulling reports, cross-referencing spreadsheets, or worse – asking around. Not exactly efficient when you’re trying to manage cash flow and accountability across a busy practice.
We’ve added two new Aged WIP report views – by Client Manager and by Client Partner – that answer these questions in seconds.
Both views group your outstanding WIP by the people responsible for those client relationships. From there, you can drill down to individual clients, then click through to the specific time recordings behind any figure. It’s the kind of visibility that helps you spot problems before they become cashflow issues.
Everything you’d expect is included: filtering, sorting, CSV export, and summary totals. No manual work required.
Find it: Insights → Report Engine → Report Summary → Aged WIP → By Client Manager or By Client Partner
Perfect for practices that need real accountability over portfolios, and for Partners who want to understand their team’s workload without playing detective.
Work on Clients Without Jumping Between Screens
Picture this: You’re halfway through a client file when you need to check on a task. So you navigate away to the main Task List, filter down to that specific client, update what you need, then click back to where you were.
It’s not a disaster. But it’s friction. And friction adds up.
The new Tasks tab sits directly inside Client Files, showing you all tasks for the client you’re currently working on. No navigation. No filtering. Just the tasks that matter, right where you need them.
You can create new tasks with client details already populated, update progress via the side panel, and even use bulk actions – all without leaving the client file you’re in.
Find it: The Tasks tab is now the third option in your Client Files navigation menu.
Small change, big impact. Especially when you’re managing dozens of clients and every context switch costs you focus.
Save The Views You Actually Use
If you’ve been filtering the Task List the same way every Monday morning – by service, by deadline, by staff member – we’ve got good news.
Task List Bookmarks let you save your most-used filtered views and access them with a single click. Even better? You can share bookmarks across your entire practice, so your team works from the same views and nothing falls through the cracks.
It’s the same bookmark functionality you’ve been using on Client Lists and reporting pages, now extended to where you probably need it most.
Find it: Look for the Bookmarks button in the top right of your Task List, between Bulk Actions and Export.
The Point Of All This
Practice management software should reduce admin, not add to it. These three features address specific problems we’ve heard from hundreds of practices: lack of WIP visibility, too much context-switching, and repetitive filtering that wastes time.
If you’re a BrightManager customer, all three are live in your account now. If you’re researching practice management software and wondering whether yours does this… well, now you know what’s possible.
