Logging In and Dashboard Overview

To access BrightTax, login using your email and password.

You’ll start on the the dashboard. This serves as the central hub, displaying ongoing and completed tasks.

Users can create tasks, manage clients, generate reports, and update settings. Key icons include the eye (view tasks), bin (delete discarded tasks), and the BrightTax icon (returns to Task List).

Settings management

The Settings menu allows for user creation and permission assignment. Administrators can view licence details, including user counts and expiration dates, and configure HMRC and Companies House filing details.

Client creation and management

Clients are managed under the Client List section, with options to toggle between Individuals and Organisations. Users can view, create, or delete client records. When creating a client, mandatory fields (marked with red stars) must be completed. Once saved, client records become read-only, with an option to toggle to edit mode. Tasks can be created directly for each client.

Task Creation

Tasks can be created from multiple locations: the Task List, Client List, or individual client details. Tasks open in read-only mode but can be switched to edit mode via a toggle. For Individual Tax Returns (ITRs), users can navigate through tabs such as Summary, SA100, and SA110, print tax returns, and submit them to HMRC.

Year-End Accounts and Corporation Tax

Year-End Accounts (AP) and Corporation Tax (CT) tasks are created through the Create Task button. Tasks open in read-only mode but can be switched to edit mode. Users can import trial balances, make journal adjustments, and generate iXBRL files for submission. AP and CT tasks allow report printing, client approval, or submission to Companies House or HMRC.
