I pay a week in arrears, where do I process my last week of December pay period which has a pay date in January?

If the pay date falls in January, this should be processed in BrightPay 2025 The tax year in which the payroll is processed is determined by the pay date.

I run a fortnightly payroll, one week falls into 2024 and the second week in 2025. Do I process these separately in the relevant tax years?

No, the tax year is determined by the pay date that the fortnightly pay period is processed in, regardless of the week ending dates. If the pay date is in January, the entire fortnightly payroll should be processed in BrightPay 2025.

Do I have a week 53 in the tax year 2024?

A week 53 applies only if an employer pays employees on a Monday or Tuesday and the last pay date of the 2024 tax year is Monday 30th or Tuesday 31st December 2024.

What steps are required to finalise the 2024 payroll?

When you complete your final pay period for 2024, you simply submit the PSR as normal. There are no extra steps. Employees can view their earnings for 2024 on Revenue’s employee online service, myaccount.ie, under the Job or Pension section. You can visit our website to download the 2025 software BrightPay for Windows or subscribe to BrightPay’s new fully cloud software.

When are 2025 RPNs available?

Revenue will issue RPNs on the 9th of December so they are ready for 2025 payroll processing. support team, and they’ll be on-hand to look after you too. Can I import my data into 2025 BrightPay before completing my 2024 payroll?

We advise waiting until your payroll is fully completed for the current tax year before importing into the new tax year version. This will ensure the most accurate and up-to-date information is being imported from the previous tax year.

How do I install BrightPay for Windows 2025 for the new tax year?

Each tax year requires new software in line with the new budgetary requirements. To install BrightPay 2025:

  • Download 2025 software here.
  • Once downloaded, this will be a completely separate installation, and a new BrightPay icon will appear on your desktop.

You can still access the information for the previous tax year in 2024 BrightPay.

How do I install BrightPay’s full cloud software for the new tax year?

Brightpay’s online version does not need to be downloaded to your desktop. You access the software via your browser. To sign up to BrightPay online for 2025, click here. How do I import my data from BrightPay for Windows 2024 into BrightPay for Windows 2025 for the new tax year?
  • Locate where your 2024 employer file is saved to, by hovering your mouse over the employer name on your ‘Open Employer’ screen in BrightPay 2024. Take note of the location that will appear.
  • Next, on the ‘Open Company’ screen in BrightPay 2025, select Import Employer(s) > Import BrightPay 2024 file(s).
  • Navigate to the location of your 2024 employer data file and double click on the file name to commence the import.
I have imported my employer file into BrightPay 2025 but not all employees are showing or employees are there that were made leavers in the previous tax year?
  • The incorrect employer file was imported. You can remove this file from your BrightPay 2025.
  • Check the location of your BrightPay 2024 employer file. You can do this by hovering your mouse over the employer name on your ‘Open Employer’ screen in BrightPay 2024 and taking note of the location that will appear.
  • Go back to BrightPay 2025, on the ‘Open Company’ screen, select Import Employer(s) > Import BrightPay 2024 file(s)
  • Browse to the location of your 2024 employer data file and double click on the file name to commence the import
Why is BrightPay 2025 downloading as a 60-day free trial when I have already purchased a licence?

BrightPay initially downloads as a 60-day free trial (with full functionality). On purchasing a 2025 licence, you will have received a licence key on the invoice that was emailed to you. Simply select ‘Upgrade Licence’ on the ‘Open Company’ screen of your BrightPay 2025 software and enter and activate your licence key here. Your software will no longer show as a free trial and instead will indicate your purchased licence type.

How do I sign into BrightPay Connect for the new tax year?

Please select ‘Connect’ tab on your BrightPay 2025 ‘Open Company’ screen and sign into your Connect account using your Bright ID username and password.
