With BrightPay's desktop payroll solutions, you can use BrightPay Connect which includes automatic cloud backups, an online employer portal and employee self-service app.

All BrightPay licences can be installed on up to 10 different PCs. All our software licences include free telephone and email support.

All licences include full functionality at no extra cost – we don’t charge extra for auto enrolment functionality, payrolling of benefits or our CIS module.

BrightPay Connect is an add-on to the payroll software and is billed separately at the end of each month based on the total number of active employees in that month.

What is included in my BrightPay licence?

We release updates to BrightPay throughout each tax year to comply with any legislative changes, introduce new features and improvements, and/or provide any required bug fixes. When an update is available, the software will automatically alert you with the details along with a link to download and install.

Any budgetary or software upgrades required during a tax year for which you hold a licence will be provided free of charge.

How can I order printed payslip stationery?

You can upgrade a BrightPay licence to a different tier at a later stage. The cost to upgrade the licence type is the difference between the original purchase price and the price of the upgraded licence.

If an increase to the number of employers/employees is required, is the full licence fee chargeable?

BrightPay licences are priced per tax year, and are valid only for the tax year in question (as opposed to from date of purchase). Your BrightPay licence will not expire - you can keep BrightPay installed and revisit that tax year whenever you need.

Will my BrightPay licence expire?

New independent BrightPay software is released every tax year in line with budgetary requirements. When you need to process payroll for a new tax year, you will need to purchase a new licence.

Do I need a new BrightPay licence each tax year?

Every tax year we release brand new software in line with the new budgetary requirements. To move your payroll on to a new tax year, simply download the new tax year version of BrightPay.

Once downloaded, this will install separately to your previous year’s software and you will see a new BrightPay icon appear on your desktop.

Your BrightPay software for the new tax year will contain a seamless import facility to bring across your employee details from the previous tax year's version of BrightPay. In doing so, your previous year’s information will remain untouched and accessible.

I have purchased a licence key for the new year - how do I upgrade the software?

Each annual installation of BrightPay installs separately to each previous tax year version. Versions of BrightPay for previous tax years are available to purchase. Get in touch with us for access to older versions of our software.

Can I download previous tax years of BrightPay?

BrightPay will initially download as a 60-day free trial (with full functionality).

On purchasing a new tax year licence from us, you will have received a licence key on the invoice that was emailed to you.

Simply select 'Upgrade Licence' on the 'Open Company' screen of your BrightPay software and enter and activate your licence key here.

Your software will no longer show as a free trial and instead will indicate your purchased licence type.

I have purchased a licence key but my software is saying 'trial version'?

Your total number of active employees is used to calculate your BrightPay Connect bill for each calendar month. If this number changes throughout the month, the highest value at any given point is used.

An active employee is one whose dates of employment overlap with the calendar month. You won't be charged for employees who left before the month, or who you have on file but are not due to start until after the month.

For bureau customers, the total number of active employees is calculated across all clients that you have linked to BrightPay Connect. For example, you would be billed the same for one client with 10 employees, and 10 clients with one employee each.

How is the BrightPay Connect bill worked out?

Payment for BrightPay Connect for any given month is taken in the first week of the following month. To enable us to do this, you must set up at least one valid payment method in your BrightPay Account.

If you do not have a payment method set up or if payment collection fails, and you do not respond to our reminders and final notices to remedy it within time, your Connect service will be suspended (causing backups and self-service access to cease).

When and how is the BrightPay Connect payment taken?
