By Séamus Moore, Chief Marketing Officer, Bright

This week, BrightPay was awarded Payroll & HR Software of the Year at the LUCA Awards — a moment of recognition that arrives at a pivotal time for our business. I’ve been at Bright for just over two months, and in that short period one thing has become undeniably clear: BrightPay is not just a product with legacy strength — it is a platform with future momentum.

This award affirms what many of us inside Bright already know: when you combine deep product credibility with bold strategic direction, category leadership follows.

A Fast Start with a Clear Mandate

When I joined Bright, my focus was simple:

Understand the customer, understand the market, and understand what needs to change for BrightPay to lead the next decade — not just the last one.

BrightPay is one of the most trusted names in payroll. Accountants, payroll bureaus and SMEs rely on it every day because it has always been accurate, compliant, and incredibly easy to use.

But the market is shifting. Cloud adoption is accelerating. Customer expectations have been reshaped. Competitors are investing heavily to capture intent, visibility and mindshare. Trust must be rebuilt. And above all, the role of payroll software is expanding beyond simple processing — it now sits at the heart of people, payments, compliance and automation.

Moving Customers to the Cloud — With Care, Data and Clarity

BrightPay’s cloud journey is well underway — and the shift is more than a technical evolution. It’s a commercial and emotional one.

Over the last two months, it became clear that customers aren’t just asking, “What does the cloud do?”
They’re asking:

  • Will it be easier?
  • Will it save me time?
  • Will it integrate with my workflow?
  • Will I lose the reliability I depend on?

So, we’ve reshaped how we communicate the transition.
We are focusing on data, benefits, transparency, and empathy. The narrative has moved from a feature list to a value and outcomes story, grounded in real use cases:

  • Faster collaboration between accountants and clients
  • Centralised HR, payroll, documents and leave
  • Automated tasks that eliminate manual processing
  • Secure cloud backups and peace of mind
  • A more intuitive workflow for the next generation of payroll professionals

In short: we’re not migrating users to the cloud — we’re elevating their entire experience.

BrightPay Is Evolving — And So Are We

As CMO, one of my priorities has been to modernise how we show up in the market:

  1. Strengthening our brand fundamentals: We’re redefining our value proposition, sharpening our message architecture and addressing the brand inconsistencies to increase our growth ambitions.
  2. Rebuilding trust with customers: Clearer communication. Better onboarding. Listening before talking. And showing the roadmap rather than simply explaining it.
  3. Improving the discoverability and authority of BrightPay: From AI search to organic search to performance marketing — we’re restructuring how customers find us and how we meet them with the right message at the right moment.
  4. Elevating marketing governance and performance visibility: We are bringing new rigour to KPI reporting, MQL quality, channel efficiency and funnel analysis to support smarter growth decisions.

This work is ongoing, but the momentum is real — and this LUCA Award win signals that the market sees the progress.

The LUCA Award Win: A Moment of Pride — and a Signal of the Future

Winning Payroll & HR Software of the Year isn’t just an accolade. It’s validation.

The LUCA Awards are among the most prestigious honours in the bookkeeping community, and they’re especially meaningful because they’re voted for by the users themselves rather than a panel of judges.

Everyone at Bright feels genuinely proud knowing that real users have chosen BrightPay based on their experiences and satisfaction with the product.

It tells us that:

  • BrightPay remains a product professionals trust
  • Our innovation is recognised and valued
  • Our strategy is landing where it matters — with the people who use our software every day

For the teams across Product, Engineering, Support, Sales, Marketing and Customer Success, this award represents the culmination of a lot of hard work — and the beginning of a new chapter.

Looking Ahead: Changing the Game Together

My first two months at Bright have reaffirmed something powerful:

When you take a beloved product, a loyal customer base, and a team determined to build the future — transformation isn’t just possible, it’s inevitable.

BrightPay is entering its next era.
Cloud-powered. Customer-led. Innovation-driven.
And last night’s LUCA Awards win is only the start of what’s coming.

To our customers: thank you for your trust.
To the Bright team: thank you for your ambition.
To the payroll community: we’re just getting started.
